Packed Conduit Applications
- QFFM captures in a seamless fashion the flow relationship between empty and packed conduits. Accordingly, we specialize in the scale up of packed conduit applications.
- Heterogeneous catalysis
- We provide the knowhow to scale up the packed columns as well as the best choices of catalyst substrates and how best to combine these elements into a continuous flow scheme containing empty conduit extensions
- Specialize in analytical and purification chromatographic applications
- We provide the necessary design of column and system to accomplish any project going from small to large scale
Continuous Flow Chemistry
- Continuous In line monitoring UV, Mass Spectrometer, IR, Pressure, Flow, allows for more control over process
- Controlled Mixing and Quenching
- 100X more control over mass and thermal transfer. (add or remove heat very easy)
- Allows for huge advantages in process optimization over batch process
- Scalable
- Ability to handle highly reactive materials
- Ship a turnkey system to the customer for in house use;
- Review of existing or possible reactions and make recommendations on which have the best likelihood of success;.
- Convert batch synthesis protocols to a continuous flow process using the same reaction pathways or explore different pathways as a technique to engineer around problems
- Act as a supplier of the desired compound using the newly minted continuous process up to some agreed upon scale
Empty Conduit Applications
- When viewed as part of a continuous flow chemistry system, empty conduits (connecting tubing) take on a whole new dimension. Because the boundary layer development is totally different in an empty conduit as opposed to a packed conduit, system design has to account for this difference in order to maintain a scale up continuity.
- All manufacturers of fluidic systems claim to provide scalability, but they do not do so with respect to this performance criterion. We assert that the QFFM is the only model capable of providing this feature.
Smart Pump Design
- In continuous flow chemistry one finds weaknesses just as in many other technologies. The “Achilles heel” of continuous flow chemistry is the pumping system. This is a result of the fact that precise metering pumps are required in order to maintain a given stoichiometry as a reaction is carried out in a continuous flowing stream.
- Precise metering pumps are very expensive and not very reliable in this kind of a high demand application. Once again, the QFFM provides a basis for converting relatively inexpensive dumb pumps into high value added precise “smart” metering pumps.
- Our Smart pumps are extremely reliable due to the fact that the control is generated by software rather than intricate hard-wired design. Other operational pumping problems are also avoided as, for example, the need to degas reagents before one can pump them in an unattended overnight application.
- Many of our smart pump desirable features come into play also in chromatographic scenarios relating to purification on a large scale.
Fluid Flow Meters
- The measurement of fluid flow rate is of extreme importance in applications such as continuous flow chemistry and purification. This is not easily achieved due to many factors not the least of which is the particular combination of solvent and material of construction of fluid flow devices.
- The QFFM provides the mechanism for achieving extremely accurate flow control independent of load and downstream issues.
On-Line Monitoring and Control
- We are adept at providing on line monitoring as part of our overall fluid dynamics capability.
- We provide a comprehensive system capability of fluid flow apparatus including packed conduits, empty conduits, on line monitoring devices, smart pump capability and all controlled by our customized software modules.
